Summer is in the air! This hopefully means soaking in the sun, pools and salt water. This is all well and good for your skin, just keep it protected and moisturized. But what about your hair? The sun, salt and pool water can be damaging to the hair especially if it’s treated with color. These may result to dulling of hair’s vibrant color. Protect your hair by using these tips before exposing your hair to the summer elements.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Our hair is one of the parts of our body exposed to elements such as the sun. To keep the hair’s color, soft and silky texture, moisturize it with hair mask, conditioners rich with vitamin C and B5, antioxidants, natural oils such as jojoba and shea butter. Start moisturizing by applying a hair mask once a week. Keratin rich hair masks protects the hair strands, especially colored hair. Use conditioners rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for daily moisturizing. Look for shampoo free of detergents such as sulfates, because these substances strip hair of natural oils.
Before dipping into a pool treated with chlorine or into salt water, wash your hair and soak in as much fresh water as possible. If hair is soaked in fresh water and saturated with it, it will be protected and prevent the strands from taking in chlorine from the pool water. After your swim, wash your hair immediately to prevent chlorine from seeping into the hair strands. Always wash with detergent free shampoo and apply conditioner.
These tips will help maintain your vibrant hair all summer long and keep it silky smooth.
